Balchik – the palace and the botanical garden
The complex was built for about 12 years and is designed as the summer residence of the Romanian Queen Maria. It includes many individual buildings - villas, a Renaissance house, a chapel, a nymphaeum, situated amidst lush gardens and patios with exquisite decorations. The variety of styles and the influence of different cultures give the complex a special charm.
In the second half of the 20th century the park complex was placed in the care of Sofia University. This is how the famous botanical garden was born, where rare species from all over the world of trees, flowers and shrubs can be seen.
In Queen Maria's villa there is an exhibition of her personal belongings, photos and documents, and the library has been converted into a gallery.
